k.k Reitende Dalmatiner Landesschutzendivision


Unit was formed in 1874 as a squadron of  mounted riflemen in Dalmatia(Eskadron berittene Schützen in Dalmatien ) , in 1894 it was renamed "Mounted Dalmatian Riflemen"(Berittene Dalmatiner Landesschützen) .
 In 1908 units Headquarter was established as well as a second squadron and a replacement squad(ersatz eskadron). In 1910 the unit got its final name k.k Reitende Dalmatiner Landesschutzendivision  in Croatian:  Carsko-kraljevski odjel dalmatinskih konjičkih zemaljskih strijelaca.
 Units garrison was in Sinj,Dalmatia ,  during the Great war units replacement squad(Ersatz eskadron) was in Banja Luka , Bosnia.  It was part of Austrian Landwehr and with Reitende Tiroler Kaiserschützen formed only cavalry of Austrian mountain troops. Unit served on many fronts split into smaller units: squads and platoons. 
Feldpost is extremly rare, cards bellow are only mail with unit cancel that i have seen in last 15 years.

Unit was expanded in late 1914 or 1915 into  17.GbAR.

7.GbAA and 36.GbAA

13.GbAR was common army unit. It recruited in central Croatia but its garrison was in Catelnuovo. Regimental batteries were dispersed among many other units, often with Gebirgs brigades . In 1918 regiment were reformed, new Gebrirgs artillerie abteilungs were formed from it , and new 13.GbAR was raised.
New Croatian gebirgs artillerie abteilung were: 7.GbAA and 36.GbAA

Mystery on this card is Fp.416 cancel , this feldpost was used by Generalkommando .4 in Bukowina and Galicia...i can only speculate that as sender was Lieutenant and an engineer possibly he was on some mission there, temporarily removed from his unit.

K.u.k Landwehr.inf.rgt 37.(LIR.37) was raised in southern Dalmatia , over 82% of men were Croats from the area.
Unit was established in  1906 with main Garrison and HQ in  Gravosa / Gruž (Dubrovnik)
In 1914  at the beginning of war it was part of  4th Mountain Infantry Brigade – 18th Infantry Division – XVI Army Corps. Regiment was on Serbian battlefield until Italian attack in May.1915 when it moved to Italian front and was there till the end of war.  
As usually in K.u.k army,  Landsturm infantry regiment of same number as Landwehr regiment  was raised in the same recruiting area , their  Feldpost numbers follow.
